Sundays@9:15, Special Lenten Series March 1st, 8th, and 15th:
THE BODY OF CHRIST: UNITY AND DIVISIONHow did the early Church attain unity during the early years and centuries following Christ's death? How and why has it become so fractured in the past 1,000 years? The Rev. John Harper will lead us in an exploration of relevant pieces of Christian history in this three-Sunday Lenten series. Participants will also be asked to consider how important Christian unity is to them, if it involves giving up important parts of their understanding of Christian faith.

| Abundant Life, Participation Update This Sunday Marks the Last of 15 Ministry Commissionings ![]() When the Family and Children's Ministry are recognized or commissioned this weekend it will be the final worship focus on our various ministries for this program year. We have dedicated a significant portion of our worship to celebrating the children, women, and men who live out our Parish Mission through these important ministries. As excited as we are to celebrate these ministries, we know that they do not represent all the ministry that is being offered to God by our members. We also know that there are many in the Parish who have not yet made a connection with the ministry that will allow them to respond fully and joyfully to God's call to service. These regular celebrations have been planned so that the Abundant Ministry of our Parish might be recognized and so that people who are looking for connection might have inspiration. We believe that it is also important to recognize that these are all significant ministries that move God's Mission of reconciliation forward, and all of these are the ministry of the non-ordained members of the Parish. The clergy offer a variety of support and encouragement to each of these ministries. In fact, this support and encouragement is a primary ministry of our clergy. It is a multiplier of effective ministry. At St. Paul in the Desert, we look at the ministers of our Parish as all the people of our Parish. If you are not yet part of one of the ministries of the Parish, you are invited to check them out, See if God is calling you to service through one or more. |
The
Stewardship of God's Creation
Join me, Neal Boden, in
caring for
all of the wonderful creatures God has placed in our lives. I am deeply involved in Animal Samaritans. At
Animal Samaritans we have been "Improving the lives of animals and
people since
1978." We are the leading animal
welfare organization in the Coachella Valley. We perform more low cost
spay and
neutering than all other charitable organizations combined. Tuesday
2/24 is
National Spay and Neuter Day and this significant recognition coincides
with the
ground breaking for the new state of the art animal clinic adjacent to
The
Cities and County Animal Shelter at Petland Place--known as the
Coachella
Valley Animal Campus. This is an innovative public-private partnership between Riverside County and Animal Samaritans for the benefit of all communities in the Coachella Valley. In addition to spay and neuter services, we provide humane education programs, vaccination clinics, adoption services and Animal Assisted Therapy, which my Golden Retriever Julie and I, participate in. We will be at the 10:30 services on 3/8 and 3/15 to promote one of our annual favorites, "Walk with the Animals" on 3/21 at the Palm Desert Park. You may remember that Carolina and I did this last year. I am so thankful that the Church of St. Paul in the Desert is so supportive of our endeavors. Please don't mind Julie accompanying me to the communion rail....she will not partake but she will behave herself. We look forward to greeting you in the Parish Hall following the services. |
| Music Selections for Lent - Nathan B. Ensign Some New and Some Familiar Settings ![]() Fr. Andrew, Mother Stephanie and I recently selected service music for Lent. Two of the pieces (Kyrie and Agnus Dei) are from Enriching Our Worship 1 - a collection of almost 100 pieces by various contemporary composers published in 2003. Peter Crisafulli, currently Minister of Music at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Chevy Chase, Maryland, (and a full-time church musician for over thirty years) wrote the two chosen. Instrument design and construction are passionate interests to him, and he has built his own chamber organ and harpsichord, both of which have been used in numerous public performing venues. In addition, we will sing a Gregorian chant for the psalms, a plainsong setting by David Hurd for the Sanctus and during Communion a song that I learned while on Sabbatical at Taize: By night, we hasten. We hope that these selections will enrich your Lenten preparation for a glorious Easter. |

THE BODY OF CHRIST: UNITY AND DIVISION
There
is much to celebrate in the abundant life of our parish family. 14
people made about 250 calls to members and friends of St. Paul's to
invite them to support our parish with a financial pledge. In addition
to securing pledges, the callers made careful notes of concerns and
changes that were heard during the calls.

As many of
you know, S O S stands for Services and Overnight Shelter. It is a
transitional program for the homeless
that is administered by Jewish Family Services in conjunction with the
County of Riverside. It now deals primarily with homeless in the
western portion of the Coachella Valley and provides a
range of services including counseling, help with job placement and
other types
of assistance to help the homeless in our community pull themselves up
by their
bootstraps.
